Tricia Beaumont, a hard-driving truck driver, owns Beaumont Trucking. When Tricia delivers rock at the job site of JTW and Sons, she’s unprepared for the sparks that fly when she meets Cowboy, the handsome business owner.
Westman Enterprises is wealthy enough to buy whatever they want, and they want Beaumont Trucking or the payment of a million dollars. Tricia stumbles on to an old contract signed by her father and realizes this is not something that is going away. Tricia’s office and trucks are vandalized, files go missing and her tires are slashed. Someone is out to destroy her, and she suspects Westman Enterprises is responsible.
When she learns that Cowboy hasn’t been totally truthful, what she thought was a blossoming relationship turns into a nightmare. Can she learn to trust the man in the black Stetson amidst deception and half-truths, when violence threatens to destroy her world?
Frankly flirty and mutually attracted, Wes and Tricia seem made for one another, right from the start of Can You Trust a Cowboy?.
A great sexual connection just isn’t enough for the two strong-minded entrepreneurs that meet so appropriately on the job site – because their respective businesses get a lot of play in this story. Superficial and fiery though there first connection is, they are both commitment-leery and neither eager for the long term. Still, a growing relationship seems more than promising, and it even seems like some sort of trust is shared; more than either expected. Yet, that’s just where Wes ‘Cowboy’ lets gorgeous Tricia Beaumont down. And she’s not one to take that sort of thing lightly – she’s a trucker and small business owner, and knows her own mind. And Let’s face it: ‘Cowboy’ is equally tough and driven, and we have to wonder if he really has other motives and if he admits the truth or not. It’s heart-wrenching, because from the first we so want to see them together; they are too perfect as a couple.
But there’s no escaping that Tricia’s business is under attack, and she can’t just give in to the desires of her heart. She wants and needs help – but as the truth starts to come out… it seems to slam the door on any future between them.
Small details lend a lot of authenticity here, from the unreliability of help, to the ins and outs of the trucking business. It’s the characters that make this a real gem though; believable, admirable, and clever. Simply loved the snappy, flirty dialogue.
Can You Trust a Cowboy? is a fast fun steamy read, with a twisty mystery, a dollop of thrills and a whole lot of romance. The novella length left me wishing for more and earned every one of its five books.
